Tribal Public Health Careers Training Module

ANTHC is excited to share a new learning tool, created by the Alaska Native Epidemiology Center and the Distance Learning Network. Tribal Public Health careers in Alaska is an interactive learning module made to support young people and others who are exploring career development opportunities.

The field of public health is widespread, dynamic, and important to the health of Alaska Native people, but there isn’t a lot of information available about public health as a career path in the Tribal health system. While many career planning tools focus on the important impact of healthcare, the whole picture of health in Alaska includes various public health efforts as well. This training module is an important first step in providing important details about how public health differs from healthcare and how there are many exciting careers in Alaska’s Tribal public health system. Featured examples include community education, environmental health and construction, improving access to medical care for rural villages, and more!

The first part of the module explains what public health is, and how Alaska’s Tribal Public Health system is unique. You can then use the resource to meet Alaska Native professionals working in Tribal Public Health and learn about their career journeys. The module is interactive, and users can go at their own pace and find many available resources as they learn about the field. The module is focused on young people starting their careers, but it is also a useful tool for anyone thinking about how they can have an impactful career serving the Alaska Native people in Alaska.

The attached flyer can be used to share important career resources, including the module. If you have any questions about the module or how you can use it in your community, please reach out to us at anepicenter@anthc.org.
